Photoshop is professional DIGITAL IMAGE EDITING software
It is based on manipulating PIXELS like MS Paint, although it does have some vector based tools like FLASH

Note that we are using PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 8 in the school - The true professional version of PHOTOSHOP offers a wider variety of tools, but at a considerably heftier pricetag. Elements is capable of doing most of what the average multimedia student needs.

FREE Alternative programs are out there! Many people use the GIMP and can even make it appear more like Photoshop

STARTING PHOTOSHOP
  1. Look for PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 8 in your program list. It should be there near the top of your list
  2. IF you are asked to REGISTER the software, choose "NEVER"
  3. Choose EDIT

SETTING UP PHOTOSHOP
  1. Choose PIXELS as a unit of measurement using EDIT | PREFERENCES | UNITS and RULES - choose pixels
  2. IMAGE | MODE MUST be set to RGB Colour for most applications - check it BEFORE you start!
