IF you record from a stereo source, there may be times that you want to convert it to mono. This can have two benefits:
  1. This will minimize the filesize
  2. This will simplify the signals to assure they are distributed to BOTH speakers when played on a stereo system.

Splitting Stereo Tracks

1. Open the exported WAV file in AUDACITY

If the clip came from an XL camera, it will only have information on the LEFT channel. Step2 will show you how to eliminate the empty track.

2. Split the Track

  • Click the downward triangle at the top left of the left channel
  • Select "SPLIT STEREO TRACK"
  • Delete the empty right track by clicking it's "X" in the top left corner

3. The single track can now be resaved as a WAV and imported into your application.
